19 November 2009 -

As the curtain began to come down on Dubai Airshow 2009 – the 11th and largest in the biennial series – the disclosed onsite order book from the event, which featured 890 exhibitors from 47 countries, DAE Capital, part of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise placed a US $40 million order for wheels and carbon brakes for its planned Boeing 737 fleet.

The order, to supply 70 Boeing 737 next generation aircraft to be delivered from the US plane maker from next year, went to Messier-Bugatti of France with DAE Capital CEO, Bob Genise, citing its “lightweight design, lower cost of ownership and resultant fuel burn reduction” as key selection factors.

The deal brought to US $1 billion the total value of orders placed by the Dubai-headquartered global aerospace, manufacturing and services corporation during Dubai Airshow 2009, which ran for five days at Airport Expo Dubai.

And the UAE’s PERLA Aviation, which owns Ukraine’s DBAerocopter company clinched three separate sales of the low-cost AK1-3 petrol-powered, two-seater light helicopter on its first Dubai Airshow participation.

PERLA’s Tanya Rashenko confirmed the three sales to customers in Pakistan, India and the UK – with a combined value of around US $600,000 at the exhibition, which ends tonight (November 19) at the Airport Expo Dubai.

“It has been an excellent show for us with strong interest from throughout the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the USA,” said Rashenko. “We are also negotiating on an additional three sales leads gained at the show which hopefully we can conclude in the coming weeks.

“Enquiries have come from a wide breadth of sectors – private operators, the government sector and even from the film industry.”

The declared on-site order book for Dubai Airshow 2009 is now over US $14 billion and the event’s long-held reputation for delivering solid business outcomes has been demonstrated by a quick rush to book for the 12th Dubai Airshow, which will run from October 30-November 3, 2011.

Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Aerospace was the first to sign up for the 2011 event and show organiser F&E have contracted a number of other key exhibitors.

“We have also been approached by a number of visitors who came to assess the show, have understood its potential and now want to return as exhibitors,” said Alison Weller, Director Aerospace, F&E Aerospace.

“We anticipate sales pushing ahead more quickly for 2011 with industry sentiment genuinely predicting an upturn for international aviation and with companies wishing to take advantage of our price freeze on exhibitor space which will continue until the end of next year.”

F&E Aerospace is currently evaluating visitor registration demographics and intends to issue them within the next few days. “This was undoubtedly a busy show and we anticipate validated registration reaching close to the 50,000 mark – which is excellent for a trade-only visitor event,” added Weller.
